Description
This was shot at McArthur-Burney Falls State Park in Northern California. Burney Falls is a large waterfall with water constantly flowing over a large face. It is one thing to capture the long exposure to make it silky white, but that doesn't hint at how it moves.
The images where taken and simply desaturated in photoshop. Each image was placed in a separate layer in a new image. Each layer was then blended and represented only one channel.
The original idea for this process was to shoot with Scala (a black and white slide film) and then use three frames to print to Cibachrome (a paper that exposed by a slide). Each frame would be exposed with one color of light. While theoretically possible, the practicalities of perfectly lining up three frames in the dark becomes challenging. Still, it is possible to do in the darkroom and was conceived as such first.
