Description
Yes, there is an upper and a lower falls. This is the middle one... I believe this to be the more photogenic of the three falls along the McCloud river. I went to the McCloud falls after photographing at Burney falls. These falls face the other direction so that the sun falls on them throughout the day - not quite as time critical as Burney falls is to be there at the exact right time.
The biggest problem with photographing the McCloud falls is that there are people there. No where near as bad as Yosemite, but rather the local teenagers jumping in the water from the clifs. More often than not, its the adolescent males suffering some form of testorone poisioning that is far too common when adolescent females in two piece bathing suits are in the area. If you want to photograph people jumping in water, thats one thing. If you want to photograph water without people jumping in it, thats another.
This was shot with the 80-400 zoom lens with Velvia 50 - probably at or around the 300-400mm range.

Wow beautiful! I've always been in love with long exposures of water, and especially waterfalls. I like the way the falls on the left sort of frame the thinner, whispier ones toward the middle. It's really amazing. The only thing that I think would have brought it together more would be to have a bit of sky in there, maybe have the photo taken from farther down (I dont' know whether or not you can go down there, but regardless) to still catch the waterfall and from an interesting angle with more sky. Just an idea; it's nothing that's really wrong with this one at all
